The role of the reactor on the power system is mainly manifested in the following aspects:
(1) The current limiting and filtering effect of the reactor: In order to limit the short-circuit current of the transmission line and protect the power equipment, the reactor must be installed, and the reactor can reduce the short-circuit current. And keep the voltage of the system at the moment of short circuit unchanged. A damping reactor (ie, a series reactor) is installed in the capacitor circuit to suppress inrush current when the capacitor circuit is switched on. At the same time, it forms a harmonic circuit together with the capacitor bank, which plays the role of filtering each harmonic.
(2) The role of the reactor in reactive power compensation: The reactor is one of the important components of the reactive power compensation device. The shunt reactor is used to provide the inductive reactance value to consume the excess capacitive reactive power of the power system. It is necessary for the initial transmission of less power and when the power system is lightly loaded in the middle of the night each day. Because in the above two cases, the reactive power loss of the transmission line is small, due to the capacitive effect, the reactive power generated by the transmission line is greater than the reactive power consumed by the transmission line, and there is residual reactive power (capacitor) in the entire power system. The shunt reactor must be installed to consume this part of the remaining reactive power, meet the needs of the reactive power balance of the power system, and maintain the voltage level of the power system. Otherwise, the power system voltage is too high to operate safely.
